Sioux City - Shirley "Susie" L. Beacom, 82, of Sioux City died at her home on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, surrounded by her children.
Memorial Services will be 7 p.m. today at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Heman officiating. A private family burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The third daughter of William and Fern (Kyle) Jolin, Susie was born on Nov. 19, 1930 in Sioux City. Raised in Sioux City, Susie attended St. Joseph School of Nursing, where she earned her R.N and worked at St. Joseph Hospital.
On Oct. 20, 1951, she married Frank Beacom in Sioux City. The couple left Sioux City in 1979 and traveled around the country with Frank’s job in construction management. In 1989 they settled in Southern California, returning to Sioux City in 2003. Frank passed away on Dec. 24, 2007.
Susie was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She was an avid lifelong reader and also loved working with plants and flowers. Susie cherished her family and friends. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Susie is survived by her children, Peggy Beacom of Sioux City, Steve Beacom of Le Mars, Iowa, Cathy and Jim Kennedy of Rockville, Md., and Susan and Mark Bierer of Flagstaff, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Nicole Beacom, Bonnie Kennedy, Jamey Kennedy, Ryan Bierer and Sean Bierer; and her brother, Leon and Phyllis Jolin of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Fern; her husband, Frank; her three sisters, Beverly McLain, Janice Kammerer and Nanette Knight; and her younger brothers, Richard, Gerry and James Jolin.
