HORNICK, Iowa -- Shirley A. Belknap, 67, of Hornick died on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Pastor Catie Newman of Hornick United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at christysmith.com.
Shirley was born on Feb. 4, 1942, in Anthon, Iowa, to Virgil and Marie (Ziska) Belknap. She grew up and attended school in Holly Springs, Iowa, graduated from Hornick High School in 1960, and later attended business school in Omaha, Neb. She was employed at Woodman of the World Insurance Company in Omaha. She later was employed as a dispatcher for a heating and air conditioning company, returning to Hornick in the 70s after a fall. She later tended bar, also doing home care and child care with Crossroads of Omaha, from which she retired.
Survivors include her brother, Gene and Donna Belknap of Moville, Iowa; special niece, Rosie (Kent) and Lyle Hanks of Hinton, Iowa; two sons, Kelly of Le Mars, Iowa, and Josh Hanks of Brunsville, Iowa, and their families; as well as many other nieces and nephews and treasured friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Hornick Depot Museum in honor of the Hornick High School Alumni.
