Shirley Bonnes

Shirley M. Bonnes, 85, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Countryside Retirement Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to www.christysmith.com .
Shirley was born on Dec. 13, 1928, in Odebolt, Iowa, to Leonard and Mildred (Snow) Bruning. She graduated from Central High School.
She was united in marriage to Frank Bonnes on Feb. 11, 1949, in Nebraska. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1999.
Shirley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Lady Iketts (Ikes Lake), and the Girl Scout Organization. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, sewing, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Shirley was a gentle, caring, loving person with a wonderful sense of humor.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Steve (Wanda) Bonnes of Indianola, Iowa, Rex (Janet) Bonnes of Sioux City, Bruce Bonnes of Tea, S.D., and Vicki (Conrad) Pick of Tea; brother, Jerry (Nita) Bruning of Sergeant Bluff; sister-in-law, Lavonne Majeres; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; brothers, Bill and Ron; stepmother, Florence Bruning; stepfather, Lewis Fortner; and special family friends, Fred and Sandy Ohlfest.
