Shirley was born in Huron, South Dakota to Harold and Viola Kooyman December 11, 1932. It was after moving to Carroll, Iowa to attend St. Angela’s Academy that she developed some lifelong friendships. It was in Carroll, Iowa that she met and married Tom Lambert September 25, 1956. Together they had five daughters. In 1977, the family relocated to Sloan, Iowa with Iowa Public Service (IPS).
Shirley enjoyed dedicating her time and service to her community throughout her lifetime and mostly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards and traveling with her husband.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Tom. Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Harold Kooyman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; her daughters, Kathryn Dunagan of Soldotna, Alaska, Denise and Steve Edwards of Geneva, Nebraska, Jacque & Tom Bakker of Tea, South Dakota, Christine & Wes Crum of Merlin, Oregon, and Patricia and Sam Simonds of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Tom and Shirley also hosted an Australian exchange student, Carolyn Harman-Prothero, who became very much a part of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, the American Red Cross, or June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
