Shirley Ludwigs, 89, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, April 2, 2015, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Shirley was born on May 27, 1925, in Ireton, Iowa, to George and Ethel Gronemeyer. She graduated from Le Mars High School and then taught school for two years during the war. She was united in marriage to Vernon Ludwigs on June 14, 1946, in Craig, Iowa. They then moved to Sioux City in 1959.
Shirley was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and in the African Violet Society. She loved gardening, flowers, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Nancy Johnson of Sioux City, and Jim (Nicola) Ludwigs of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Ben Johnson, Nicki Johnson, Luke and Otto Ludwigs; sister, Irma Eilers of Sioux City; brother, Wayne (Joyce) Gronemeyer of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
