Shirley Ann Bonifield, the daughter of Glen and Delores (Apasanka) Bonifield, was born on April 16, 1936, in Sioux City. She graduated from East High School. She worked for Bell Telephone Co. for several years before meeting her best friend and husband, attorney, John F. Pirog. She met him when he was her attorney for a car accident injury case. He knew almost from the moment they met that he would marry her.
On Aug. 22, 1959, Shirley and John were married. They had nearly reached their 50th wedding anniversary until John's heartbreaking passing in 2008. Shirley was a homemaker and also worked for her daughter, Julie, as a receptionist and in accounts payable at Park Avenue Management, Corp, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Throughout the years, she enjoyed being with family and friends and from time-to-time would visit care centers and provided support when needed.
Shirley is survived by her children, Julie (Scott) Nylen of Scottsdale, Ariz., and John B. Pirog of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Jennifer Jay and her children, Addison and Ashleigh, of Boston, Mass., and Michael Nylen of Scottsdale; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and a sister, Darlene Herty.
