Shirley M. Snyder, 72, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Omaha Valley Cemetery, Homer, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Shirley was born on June 5, 1942, in Onawa, Iowa, to Allen A. and Emma D. (Castle) Anderson. She moved to Sioux City with her parents when she was a baby. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1960. After graduation, she worked at Wincharger Corp. until her marriage.
Shirley was united in marriage to Willard A. Snyder on July 8, 1961, in Sioux City. After marriage, she was a homemaker for her husband and sons. She was active in the PTA, serving in various positions during her sons' school years. She was a certified Wilton Cake decorator and baked and decorated cakes for family and friends for many years. In 1980, she went to work for Hickory Farms at the mall for many years.
She liked to travel, especially to Lake Okoboji, on fishing trips. She loved cooking and planning large family gatherings and meals. She enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Jeff Gordon fan. She was a former member of Glendale Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing slot machines.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Willard of Sioux City; sons, Michael of Burlington, Iowa, and Doug of Sioux City; two sisters, Pat Coonen of Omaha, and Bonnie (Sonny) Lariviere of Sioux City; brother, Roger (Kris) Anderson of Elk Point, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Marcella Snyder of Sioux City, and Charlyne Snyder of South Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
