Sophie M. O'Keefe, 94, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Sophie M. O’Keefe was born on Jan. 1, 1919, in Sioux City, to Benjamin and Sophie (Jacka) Czerkas.
Sophie was married on Oct. 1, 1945, to John J. O’Keefe at St. Francis Church. She worked at Cudahy’s for five years.
She enjoyed fishing with her children, cooking, gardening, grandkids, traveling and taking multiple cruises. Sophie also enjoyed playing the dog and horse racing and occasionally going to casinos.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn A. Comar of Sioux City; sons, Dennis J. (Virginia) O’Keefe of Aurora, Colo., Patrick M. (Cynthia) O’Keefe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Martin B. O’Keefe of Sioux City; grandchildren, Heather O’Keefe of Pasadena, Calif., John O’Keefe of Aurora, Michael (Melissa) Comar of Sioux City, Jason O’Keefe of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nicole O’Keefe of Cedar Rapids, Jacquelyn O’Keefe of Pasadena, Amanda (Jared) Hazelett of Cedar Rapids, and Megan O’Keefe of Des Moines; great-grandchild, Olivia Hazelett; a brother-in-law, Donald Kroeger of Reno, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a brother, Victor Czerkas; her sisters, Bernice Sokolovske, and Annie Kroeger; and son-in-law, Addard Comar.
