SIOUX CITY -- Theo Jean Kelly, 81, of Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Whispering Creek Active Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .
Born April 10, 1930, in Sioux City, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Minear and Marion (Trandahl) Minear. Theo grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from Central High School in 1948.
She married John R. "Dick" Kelly on Sept. 4, 1948. The couple made Sioux City their home and raised three children, Patty, Marsha and John Jr. Theo worked for the Renfro Tax Service as a tax preparer. She later worked as the office manager for Keitjes Tobacco Co., before retiring.
She was a member of the Church of the Nativity. Her hobbies included playing bridge with her Thursday Bridge Club girls, socializing with her Friday Nite Live friends, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Patty and Gene Persinger of Sioux City and Marsha Maron of South Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Kelly of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Jeff, Jaime and Nathan; four stepgrandchildren, Tom, Brad, Anthony and Tiffany; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim and Virginia Minear of Omaha; sisters, LaVonne and Mel Anderson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Marilyn and Harry Gustafson of South Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Jim and Mary Kelly of Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Jean Reed of Kentucky, and Mary O'Connor of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John R. "Dick" Kelly; and her son, John Kelly Jr.
