Theodore Michael "Ted" Colt

SIOUX CITY -- Theodore "Ted" Colt, 62, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital from complications of Alpha-1 liver disease.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Sergeant Bluff American Legion. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Theodore Michael Colt was born July 21, 1946, in Sioux City, to Elmer "Mick" and Vivian (Wynn) Colt. He attended and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1964. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1971.

He and Norma Plantenberg were married Feb. 18, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Over the years, he worked at Cargill, was a beer truck driver for the local distributor for 21 years, spent 12 years as a business agent for the Teamsters Local 554 and recently worked in the food service at the Sioux City Community School District.

He was a member of the United Way, Sioux City Food Bank, Teamsters, West Side Little League, Riverside Park committee, Sergeant Bluff American Legion and numerous other nonprofit organizations. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, spending time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Brad and Kirsten Colt of Elk Point, S.D.; a daughter and her husband, Melissa and Scott Hostetler of Sloan, Iowa; grandchildren, Skyler and Hunter Hostetler and Dylan, Jennica and Alicen Colt; eight brothers and sisters, Karen and her husband, Vince McMahon of Sioux City, Terry Colt and his wife, Marlene of Sioux City, Wendy Colt and special friend, Jerry of McCook Lake, S.D., Denise Powers and special friend, Bob of North Sioux City, Debbie and her husband, Milt Bristol of North Sioux City, Cathy and her husband, Bill Poshard of Illinois, Ernie Colt and special friend, Ann Wheelock of Sioux City and Carrie Dunne of Sioux Falls, S.D.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tim; and a sister, Pam.
