Theodore M. "Ted" Lichty, 93, of Sioux City, formerly of the South St. Aubin area, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at his residence. He had been a resident of Holy Spirit Retirement Home for five years.
Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald F. Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Ted was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Fairview, Okla., the son of Michael P. and Martha C. (Schmidt) Lichty. He lived in Oklahoma until 1928, when the family moved back to South Dakota. He moved to Sioux City in 1934.
He married Anita A. Bertrand on Jan. 6, 1942, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. She died Nov. 8, 1992, in Sioux City. He was employed as a butcher for Needham-Flavorland Packing Co. and Swift and Co. for more than 40 years. He retired in 1972.
He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 5660.
He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for more than 31 years. He received the St. George Award and the Silver Beaver. He was a Scout master and troop leader for the Cub Scout and Boy Scouts.
He was a beekeeper and an avid fisherman. He had a huge vegetable garden and shared his vegetables with his family and friends. He loved spending time in northern Minnesota at the lake home that the couple had for their retirement. He invited friends and family to come up any time they could.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Lichty and his wife, Ann of Plymouth, Minn., Patrick Lichty and his wife, Karla of Sioux City, John Lichty of Charles City, Iowa, and James Lichty and his wife, Deborah of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Clara C. Wingert of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two infant grandchildren, Zachary and Jason Lichty; and five sisters, Ottilia Williams, Eunice Pavlushik, Alma Grieshop, Frances Snyder and Hazel Lichty.
Pallbearers will be Adam, Joshua, Nathan, James, Matthew and Jason Lichty.
Memorials in his name may be directed to the Boy Scout Troop 225 for the adventure trail at the Thomas Ashford Boy Scout Camp.
