SIOUX CITY -- Thomas E. Brienzo, 93, of Sioux City died Dec. 21, 2011, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jon Moravec officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.
Tom was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Sioux City. He attended Central High School. Tom served during World War II as a paratrooper making the historic jump into Normandy on D-Day. He received the Purple Heart during his service. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to Sioux City and joined the Sioux City Fire Department. He retired as captain in 1981, after 35 years of service.
Tom married and later divorced. He later married Belle Wagner in December 1963.
Tom and Belle enjoyed many years of travel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. They spent many summers in Okoboji, Iowa, and winters at their home in Texas. They lived at Sunrise Retirement Community for 21 years.
Survivors include stepson, Joe and Geneice Wagner of Sioux City; stepdaughter, Barbara and Larry Woolworth of Sioux City; and stepdaughter-in-law, Krista Wagner of Ackley, Iowa. Grandpa Tom will be missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Belle; son, Tom Brienzo; stepson, David Wagner.
