SIOUX CITY -- Thomas L. Brooks, 77, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Mr. Brooks was cremated, according to his wishes. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Thomas was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Augustus and Elizabeth (Mossetter) Brooks. He graduated from East High School and then attended a trade school. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953.
He married W. Lorraine Gernhart on June 26, 1954, in Sioux City. He was a sheet metal worker for the McArthur Sheet Metal Works for 40 years, retiring in 1994. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City.
He was president of the Sheet Metal Workers retirement club. He was a member of the Methodist faith. Thomas enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club. He was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan, both football and basketball. He was also an excellent handyman.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Sioux City; two sons, Jerry Brooks of Sioux City, and Don Brooks of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Philip Brooks of Kansas City; two brothers, John Brooks of Sioux City, and Jim Brooks of San Jose, Calif.; and a sister and her husband, Mary and Craig Trongaard of Platteville, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Philip and Pat Brooks.
