SIOUX CITY -- Thomas Andrew Dicks, 41, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant, Central Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Tom was born on Nov. 19, 1969 in Sioux City. He attended Sioux City grade schools and graduated from North High School in 1988. While in high school, he wrestled for the North Stars Wrestling Team, where he held school records for many years.
After high school he attended Simpson College. He worked as a dispatcher for Direct Transit and also for Tyson Foods. During this time Tom took up TaeKwonDo, a passion of his, and eventually became an instructor. He excelled at TaeKwonDo, acquiring his black belt. Tom's daughter, Kaylee shared his passion, and they taught together as well. He moved to Hawaii, were he worked with his brother, welding, before returning home to Sioux City. Tom loved all kinds of sports; he was great at skateboarding and enjoyed fishing whenever and wherever he could.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kaylee and her husband, John Cross of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jordan Dicks and his grandson, William of Sioux City; his parents, Gerrie and Lyle Moffatt of Sioux City; his brothers and sisters, Karl (Estela) Dicks of Honolulu, Hawaii, Scott (Misty) Moffatt of Sioux City, Kristy (Larry) Bowman of Sioux City, Paul (Libby) Dicks of Sioux City, Brett (Bekie) Moffatt of Ireton, Iowa, and Lori (Don) Harsma of Sioux City; His grandparents, Vernon and June Cole of North Sioux City; his special companion, Heather Collyns and her family; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Dicks; his father, Merle Dicks; a niece, Paula Dicks; and grandparents, Allen and Viola Moffatt and Ray and Edith Dicks.
