Thomas C. Hulleman, 85, of Sioux City died Friday, May 2, 2014, at a local hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5000 Military Road in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Tom was born Dec. 11, 1928, in Hawarden, Iowa, to Dick and Mildred (Meyers) Hulleman. He grew up in Hawarden and graduated from Hawarden Public Schools. After graduation, he went to work for the city of Hawarden, working as a lineman. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a technical sergeant in Korea until 1953. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Siouxland and worked construction.
He married Marlene Cox on June 26, 1954, in Sioux City, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Tom then went to work for Wincharger and carried mail part time at the U.S. Postal Service. In 1957, he went to work for the Sunshine Food Market in Sioux City and retired in 1990 after 33 years.
Tom enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, yard work, carpentry, fishing with his friends and fishing trips to Minnesota, playing golf at the Sun Valley Golf Course, where he had a hole-in-one, and traveling, especially, to Las Vegas to see the casinos and to visit family. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Modern Woodmen of America.
Surviving are his wife, Marlene Hulleman of Sioux City; daughter, Renee Murray of Sioux City; two sons, Tim Hulleman and fiancee, Jill Burnight of Sioux City, and retired Chief Master Sgt. Dale Hulleman and his wife, Melinda of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Sean, Jennifer, Lindsay, Calvin, Ashley and Danelle; five great-grandchildren with two more on the way; three sisters, Winifred Van Buskirk of Canton, S.D., Judith and her husband, Gene Nelson of Canon City, Colo., and Mildred and her husband, Ralph Rasmussen of Alcester, S.D.; and sister in-law, Mary Hulleman of Hawarden, Iowa.
Tom was preceded in death by his two brothers, Martin and Melvin; and two sisters, Neoma Millikan and Rachel Hulleman.
