DAKOTA DUNES -- Thomas Edward Streeter, 88, of the Dakota Dunes area died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Moore of Evangelical Covenant Church of Sloan, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to christysmith.com.
Tom was born July 25, 1921, in McCook Lake, S.D., the son of Alfred Streeter and Rosie (Eshelman) Streeter. He had lived his entire life around this area.
He married Zoie Rosenbaum on April 15, 1944, at Camp Cook, Calif., while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater during the war. He was employed at some packing plants and for Nelson Painting, all the while farming the land, his first love. Zoie died July 24, 2001, in Sioux City.
He enjoyed spending time with all of his family.
He is survived by two sons, Theodore "Ted" Streeter and his wife, Connie of North Sioux City and Dean Streeter of Sioux City; two daughters, Rose and her husband, Terry Johnson of Sloan, Iowa, and Diane Huls of Sioux City; three sisters, Irene Heck of Omaha, Nellie Stricker of Sioux City and Violet Anderson of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred Streeter, Claude Streeter, Harold Streeter and Teddy Streeter; sisters, Marie Baker, Ella Beavers and an infant sister; three grandsons, Randy Johnson, Jeffrey Irish and Quinten Streeter; and a granddaughter, Michelle Streeter.
