SIOUX CITY -- Thomas Beacom, 69, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Larkin Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Lacey of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to

Thomas Theodore Beacom was born Oct. 12, 1940, to Henry and Ruby (Berg) Beacom in Sioux City. He attended Catholic schools in Sioux City. After high school, Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957. During his military career he served three tours in Vietnam, serving as a riverboat captain. He retired from the Navy in 1977 after serving for 20 years.
Tom attended Sioux Empire College after his discharge from the Navy and received his associate of arts degree. He worked as a security guard for Hirschbach trucking and delivered medications to nursing homes for Walgreens.
Tom was a member of the Eagles and Monahans American Legion Post 64. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching football.
Tom is survived by a daughter, Tammy Hughes and fiance, Russell Girard of Albany, Ore.; grandchildren, Joshua James Barrington of Albany, Ore., Randy James Dunlap of Cottage Grove, Ore., Melissa Breanne Barrington and Makayla Lynn Barrington, both of Albany, and Brittney Rose Jirard of Albany; brother, Henry and wife, Roxyann Beacom of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Marilyn and husband, Charles Whitson of Jenks, Okla.; brothers, Mark Beacom of Sioux City, Jim and wife, Debra Beacom of McCook Lake, S.D., and Bob Beacom of Sioux City; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pat and Donald; and niece, Jillian.
