Timothy William Merchant, 63, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, Iowa. Timothy was born April 29, 1953, to Ernie and Margaret (Hodges) Merchant in Sioux City. He was raised in Jackson, Neb.
Timothy married Sandy Coon on June 19, 1982, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He worked for Murphy Mechanical Insulation in sales.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. Timothy was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed going to Lewis & Clark Lake. He enjoyed being with his grandkids, family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy “Sam” of Sioux City; three children, Chad (Sara) Merchant of Bronson, Iowa, Lindsay (Ben) Murphy of Sioux City, and Ronnie (Marissa) Merchant of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; five grandchildren, Tanner, Turner, Taylor, Alexis, Mason, and one girl on the way; two brothers, Joe Merchant of Crofton, Neb., and Mick Merchant (Kathy) of McCook Lake, S.D.; sister-in-law, Barb (Steve) Treinen of Santan Valley, Ariz.; father-in-law, Ron Coon of Sioux City; and "sister" to Sam, Anne Anderson of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Patrick Merchant and Paul Merchant; sister, Mary Jean Gilman; and mother-in-law, Barbara Coon.
