Sioux City - Dr. Timothy F. Moran Jr., 74, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating and Monsignor Roger Augustine concelebrating. Members of St. Vincent Alumni will be Honor Guard. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dr. Moran was born July 30, 1939, in Scranton, Pa., the son of Timothy F. Sr. and Lenore (Boland) Moran. He was raised in Scranton, and graduated from Georgetown Prep School in Garrett Park, Md. He graduated from the University of Scranton and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
On June 18, 1966, he married Theresa "Terry" Kuckuck at Annunciation BVM Church in Havertown, Pa. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and then began private practice in Springfield, Ill.
In 1987, Dr. Moran moved his family to Sioux City, where he practiced at the Moran Eye Center. He was president of the Woodbury Medical Society, and served as a delegate to the Iowa Medical Society. In 2004, he was named Physician of the Year by the Woodbury Medical Society. He served on the board of directors for Siouxland Medical Doctors. He was a Fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a life member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Moran was the first ophthalmologist in the area to participate in Mission Cataract with Mercy Medical Center. He had volunteered his services at the Siouxland Community Health Center since 2004.
In 1988, he and Terry co-founded the Marian Center at Trinity Heights. He was named the first Irishman of the Year by the Sioux City St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. He had been a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Terry of Sioux City; five daughters, Kerry and Sean Hope, Jennifer Moran, Stephanie and Rob Salvatore, Kris and Danny Isgro and Lindsay Moran; two sons, Timothy and Kristin Moran and Patrick and Amanda Moran; a son-in-law, Jason Lint; 10 grandchildren, Alex, A.J. and Audri Hope, Frank Lint, Monica, Owen and Emmett Moran, Logan and Grace Isgro, and Natalie Moran; two brothers, Christopher Moran, and Kurt and Jill Moran; a sister-in-law, Ronnie and Larry Poli; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Tracey Moran and Monica Lint; his parents; and a sister, Peggy Moran.
