Troy L. Smothers, 50, of Sioux City, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sunnybrook Community Church. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Troy Lee Smothers, the son of Donald E. and Mary "Suzie" (Goede) Smothers, was born on May 8, 1967, in Sioux City. He graduated from West High School in 1985. Troy worked as a laborer at Tyson Foods (formerly IBP), before he went to Western Iowa Tech Community College to study HVAC. Troy then returned to Tyson, where he worked on the heating and cooling systems.
Troy was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church. He liked to play cards and board games. Troy also enjoyed cooking, camping, and fishing.
Troy is survived by his daughter, Jessica (fiance, Gunner Holbrook) Smothers of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Logan and Tanner Holbrook; his mother, Suzie (John) Jensen of Sioux City; sisters, Stephanie Smothers of West Des Moines, and Susan Henkins of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepsister, Melissa (Joe) Morris of Sioux City; stepbrother, Jason (Mandi) Jensen of Burnsville, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Smothers; paternal grandparents, Donald R. and Irma Smothers; maternal grandparents, John and Mary Goede; and his aunt, Julie Goede.
