Vedrenia 'Drene' M. "Drene" Kruse (Quesnell)

Vedrenia M. "Drene" Kruse, 92, of Sioux City died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel. Visitation will resume 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Drene was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Crookston, Minn., the daughter of Harris and Katherine (Theis) Quesnell. She lived in Crookston until the age of 11, when the family moved to Grand Forks, N.D., She graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks in 1933.

She married Walter B. "Scotty" Kruse on Aug. 15, 1944, in Reynolds, N.D. He died Oct. 20, 1989, in Grand Forks. She worked for Herberger's Department Store in Grand Forks from 1946 to 1961, as a clothing buyer. She then worked at the Piggly Wiggly Store from 1961 to 1964. She then went to work for the University of North Dakota in the food service department. She was in charge of the dorm food and the School Teas. She retired in 1989 after 25 years. She moved to Sioux City in 1990.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and still bowled in three leagues at the age of 92. She enjoyed golf and walking around the pool at the Clifton Apartments. She was an avid Cubs and Twins fan. Her best friend were her grandpuppies, Mischief and Trouble.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Kathleen M. Kruse-Lucas and James Lucas of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Sara Vedrenia and her husband, Curt Miller of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marie Kathleen Lucas of Chicago, Ill.; and three brothers, Harris Quesnell of San Diego, Calif., Gerald Quesnell of Kennwick, Wash., and Richard Quesnell of Grand Forks, N.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Lucille Kmetz; and two brothers, Raymond and Roland Quesnell.

A memorials may been established in her name at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City.
