SIOUX CITY -- Vera Germain Bern, 83, of Sioux City died Monday, July 27, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Jefferson, S.D. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Vera was born May 13, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Fred H. and Lillian M. (Malloy) Bern. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1944. She attended the National Business Training School. She was the office manager for 35 years at Dr. James Reeder's office.
She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was very creative and loved doing crafts, crocheting and needlepoint.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Hazel Bern of Sioux City; and nieces and nephew, Betty Burright, Gary Collins, Charles Collins, Michael Collins, all of Sioux City, Sheryl Long of Casper, Wyo., and Tracy Welch of Seward, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Collins; and a brother, Marvin Bern.
