Verda "Patt" Anderson, 87, of Sioux City died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Patt was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Greenfield, S.D., moving to Sioux City with her family as an infant. She graduated from Central High School. Patt found Christ as her Savior prior to attending Trinity Bible School in Chicago.
She married Burton Anderson on Dec. 27, 1947. Together they made their home in Minnetonka, Minn. Burton died Aug. 26, 1983. Patt moved to Custer, S.D., in 1997 and back to Sioux City in 2004. Patt worked as a nursing assistant over the years. Her last job was with North Junior High.
She was a past member of Central Free Church in Minneapolis and Minnetonka Mills Community Church. As a teenager, she sang for the Free Church on the radio. Patt enjoyed singing in choirs, baking and interacting with kids and all of their activities.
Survivors include two daughters, Candice and Donal Luhrsen of Mimbres, N.M., and Victoria K. and the Rev. Carl Martin Jr. of West Concord, Minn.; four grandchildren, Cedric, Lars and Daniel Luhrsen and Alex Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Lane and Belle Luhrsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burton; and three siblings, Perry Aust, Clarice Whitney and Bennett Aust.
