Verla M. Madsen, 87, of Sioux City passed away Oct. 6, 2016, at Sunrise Retirement Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Faith United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dave Koehler officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Verla was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Orville and Alma (Messing) Swanger. Verla married Les Madsen in 1951 at Battle Creek, Iowa.
She enjoyed baking, crocheting, sewing, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Kirk Madsen of San Diego, Calif., and Todd (Jane) Madsen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Lisa (Joe) Barthole of Sioux City; and granddaughters, Kristen Covey, Christine, Julia, Katherine and Abagail Madsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Lowell, Wayne, Russell and Sterling Swanger; and sister, Harriett Conover.
