South Sioux City - Verna G. Ball, 88, of South Sioux City died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate.
Verna was born on Oct. 18, 1924, in Elk Point, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Irene (Rosenbaum) Livingston.
Verna was raised in Elk Point and came to South Sioux City after she married Medford Franke. They made their home in South Sioux City. Verna worked as the head of housekeeping for the Travel Lodge in South Sioux City for many years. Medford died on Dec. 15, 1972, in Sioux City. Verna then married Antone Ball on July 16, 1973. He died on Oct. 25, 2007.
Verna was a member of the Methodist faith. She enjoyed going dancing when she was younger and was known for her cooking. She loved making pancakes and cinnamon rolls for all her family.
She is survived by her children, Marvin and Nancy Franke of Las Vegas, Nev., Marlene and Robert Miller of South Sioux City, Melvin and Vicki Franke of Pierre, S.D., and Charlene Franke of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Della Callahan of Tempe, Ariz., Shirley Roth of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marlys Larson of Jefferson, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sisters, Helen Schmidt, and Viola Castor; and two brothers, Jack and Bruce Livingston.
