Victor Earl Menefee, 86, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 1, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Services were held on Nov. 6 in Little Rock. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements in Sioux City are under the direction of Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Victor was born in Sioux City to Victor and Grace (Jensen) Menefee. He joined the U.S. Navy in January 1945. He attended Southern Methodist University, Northwestern University and Morningside College located in Sioux City. He loved the U.S. Navy, where he served as a naval aviator. His favorite aircraft carriers were the USS Coral Sea and the USS Oriskany. After the service, he moved to Little Rock.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Rotary International, and the Country Club of Little Rock. He served on the Little Rock City Board as vice-mayor. He was an avid tennis player, and a world-class sailor. His other hobbies included golfing, snow skiing, and traveling with his pet Labrador. He loved people, he loved life and never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Neva Knight Light Menefee; granddaughter, Dana Sherwood Turnbull and her husband, Andrew and their young children, Dane and Hadley of Alexandria, Va.; stepson, Jerry Thomas Light Jr., and his wife, Denise and their children, Phoebe Jane and Jay of Colleyville, Texas; niece, Debbie Lund and her husband, Bill of Bancroft, Neb.; and a nephew, Curtis Bue and his wife, Vicky of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jacqueline Jean Bue; daughter, Dana Victoria Wilson; and a son, Roger Holcomb Menefee and his wife, Tina Rowland Menefee
