Viola Mary Downey, 87, of Aitkin, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at her home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Donald Ries will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Viola was born on July 7, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She moved to Sioux City in 1948. On Feb. 13, 1960, she married Harry Albert Downey in Papillion, Neb. He died in 1985.
She was a former member of Nativity Catholic Church.
She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Ann King of Mapleton, Iowa, Pearl Theisen of Maple Grove, Minn., and Paddy Wallace Downey of Pleasantville, Iowa; four sons, Dennis (Sally) King of Aitkin, Ronald (Louise)King of Sioux City, Larry King of Duluth, Minn., and Frank J. Downey of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Viola would always say, "I love you."
