SIOUX CITY -- Viola L. Hough, 94, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Viola was born Feb. 9, 1914, in Sergeant Bluff, to Mike and Mary (Steinhofer) Brassfield. She graduated from Luton High School in 1932.
In 1937, she married Clarence Hough in Salix, Iowa. They farmed for several years in Iowa and Minnesota. In 1946, they bought a farm in Avoca, Minn., and moved to several other farms over the years, until they retired in Worthington, Minn., In 1976, the couple moved to Grants Pass, Ore., where Clarence died in 1978. She stayed there, where she later met her dance partner and companion for several years, Dee Wilson. She also helped raise his children, Lavonda and Cole.
She had no children, but became a second mom to her two brothers' daughters and was a very important part of their lives.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Rita Brassfield and Jean Hough; six nieces, Lori (Doug) Stone, Debbie Miller, Mary (Larry) Johnson, Jeanne (Jack) Basye, Pat (Gene) Zellmer and Karen (Gordon) Barber; as well as many nieces and nephews across the United States.
