Violet P.D. Golliday (Williams)

SIOUX CITY -- Violet P.D. Golliday, 74, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Violet was born in London, England, on May 19, 1934. She attended school at Saint Gregory's in Margate Kent, England, and graduated in 1951. She married Hersal Henry Golliday from Burlington, Iowa, on Oct. 4, 1952, in Margate Kent. In 1954, they moved back to the U.S. to Spokane, Wash., where Hersal was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. They later moved to Sioux City, when Hersal transferred with the 185th Air National Guard.

Violet started working for Younker Davidson's in 1958 and retired in 1988, after 30 years in sales and holding numerous positions within the company. Violet retired with her husband and enjoyed staying home and helped raise all their grandchildren. In March 1998, after 46 years of marriage, Hersal passed away unexpectedly.

Violet enjoyed spending all her time with her daughters and grandchildren. Her extra time was spent dancing, knitting, reading, gardening and working on crafts with her daughters. Violet's love of dance won her the Jitterbug championship in London. Mum's grandchildren called her "Big Mum" and throughout the past 30 years, all who knew her called her "Big Mum."

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Terese and Doug Millage of Sioux City, Jacqueline and Gary Goodrich of Maple Grove, Minn., Julie and William Hansen of Sioux City, and Sherrie and Mark Wolterman of Danbury, Iowa; grandchildren, Natasha (Dale) Adams of Des Moines, Damian (Clarissa) Dicus of Sioux City, Nicholas (Missy) Dicus of Sioux City, Tiffany (Andrew) John of Albertville, Minn., Brandon Goodrich of Sioux City, Kent Fredricksen of Danbury, Tyler Hansen of Sioux City, Mitchel Wolterman of Danbury, and Traci Dicus of Sioux City; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alizabeth Adams, Mya and Madison Dicus, Kobe, Hallie and Breanna Dicus; sisters, Elizabeth Pantoja of Sioux City, Jacqueline Williams of Sioux Falls, Patricia (Dr. Philip) Dyer of Carmel, Ind.; a brother, Philip Williams of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Shirley (William) Schaffner of Russellville, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Frank Golliday of Midwest City, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hersal Golliday; a daughter, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Dicus; a son-in-law, Stephan Fredricksen; her mother, Frances Green; her father, Arthur Williams; her stepfather, John Green; sisters, Marie Courchaine and Frances Williams; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Lucy Golliday; brothers-in-law, Marshal Pantoja, Leverne "Red" Golliday, Clifford Brown and Robert Golliday; and sisters-in-law, Betty Williams, Nona Golliday, Charlotte Brown and Wilmetta Golliday.

Pallbearers will be Kent Fredricksen, Tyler Hansen, Nicholas Dicus, Damian Dicus, Brandon Goodrich and Dale Adams. Honorary pallbearer will be Andrew John.
