Virgie Eileen Kennedy, 92, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Virgie was born on Sept. 5, 1923, in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Wallace and Irene (Fletcher) Hoffman. She was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1941. After graduation, she moved to Sioux City where she worked for J.C. Penney Co. and Younkers Department Store.
On Dec. 22, 1945, she married Merval Kennedy in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Sioux City.
Virgie enjoyed visiting with friends, shopping, and playing cards. The couple enjoyed traveling. They went to Colorado, Las Vegas, Missouri and California. What she loved most was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Merval of Sioux City; two daughters, Sharyne Lease of Sioux City, and Susan (Gary) Cox of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Bricker, Lindsay (Nick) Miller, Ashley (Tony) Cox, and Shey Cox; six great-grandchildren, McKenna, Cale, Arianna, Danika, and Marek Bricker, and Brey Cox; her brother, Ray (Lois) Hoffman of Moorhead; and her sister, Sue (Bill) McGuire of Moorhead.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Scott Lease; her sister, June Lee; and her son-in-law, Paul Lease.
