Bronson, Iowa - Virgil Edward Kunkel, 79, of Bronson passed away Jan. 26, 2014, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
He was born on July 12, 1934, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Ralph and Ermma (Hess) Kunkel.
He married Sharon Guffy on July 17, 1955. Virgil retired from the D.O.T. in 1996 after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, collecting cans, and visiting the casinos. Virgil was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, who cherished every moment he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kunkel of Bronson; daughters, Deborah (Mike) Schenzel of Hinton, Iowa, Rhonda (Danny) Beavers of North Sioux City, and Karen (Glenn) Ludwig of Merrill, Iowa; sons, Edward (Jessi) Kunkel of Sioux City, and Jeff (Tracy) Kunkel of Lawton, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason and Krystal Schenzel, Justin and Lacey Beavers, Camelle and Nicole Stevens, Derek and Kaylee Ludwig, Levi Kelleher, and Braeden, Lexi, Ty, and Ridge Kunkel; and great-grandchildren, Jensen Davidson, Andrew Landean, Camden Tomlinson, Kayleigh and Brooke Mace, and Jace Beavers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice O’Meara; brother, Kenneth Kunkel; infant son, Kenneth; and infant daughter, Jodi.
