Virginia Violet Ferguson, age 97, of Sioux City died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia was born in Sioux City, Iowa on February 25, 1923, the daughter of George and Agnes (Magden) Culmsee. She attended Sioux City Community Schools. She left Sioux City at the age of 15 to become an entertainer, singing with several Big Bands of the era. Her career began in St. Joseph, Missouri then on to Los Angeles, California, then to Las Vegas, Reno, and ending in Lake Tahoe.
She was united in marriage with Charles Brooks Grieson and later divorced. She then married Rex Gallion and they later divorced. She then married her beloved husband Howell “Fergie” Ferguson on September 1, 1966 in Seattle Washington. Mr. Ferguson preceded her in death on May 5, 1988. She returned to Sioux City in 1989 to take care of her father and worked later for Jim Carlin. She retired later in her life.
She was an active member of Cornerstone World Outreach and her nursing home music ministry with her sister Marie Wheeler.
She is survived by her daughter, Lana Ante of Prescott, AZ; stepchildren, Mark Ferguson and his family, and Brett Ferguson and his family; nieces Roberta and Mary; nephews, Albert, Gary, and Ronnie; and her brother-in-law, Ken Rawlings.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Marie Wheeler and Delores Rawlings.
