Sioux City - Virginia Hamner, 91, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home.
Virginia was born on July 12, 1922, to Earl and Ida Mae (Roberts) Hamner in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School. Virginia joined Whitfield Church in Sioux City in 1934 at age 12, Calvary Methodist in 1941, and Wesley United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., in 1969, and later, Wesley United Methodist Church in 2001, when she moved back to Sioux City. She enjoyed working at the church and cross-stitching. Virginia lived in Washington, D.C., for over 60 years and worked 11 years as the church secretary at Calvary Methodist Church and for 29 years as a faculty secretary at Wesley Theological Seminary.
Those left to honor her memory include her nieces, Dianne (Jerry) Johnson of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Linda (Jeff) Dangelser of Manson, Iowa; great-nieces and nephews, Darren Johnson, Emily Johnson, Alex Dangelser and Amber Dangelser; and numerous cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Nelson Wanned; sister, Beverly Bemrich; brother-in-law, Darrell Bemrich; nephew, Douglas Bemrich; and several aunts and uncles.
