Virginia Lawrenson

SIOUX CITY | Virginia G. Lawrenson, 91, of Sioux City died on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nea Huggins officiating and the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler also participating in the service. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Virginia was born on March 20, 1921, in Doon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert and Gesiena “Goldie” (Van Gorkon) Nagel. The family moved to Sioux City when Virginia was a small child. She attended Cooper School and graduated from East High School in 1940.
On May 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Lawrenson in Sioux City. They shared their lives together for 70 years. Virginia worked at the Johnson Biscuit Company. She later worked with her husband at the Lawrenson Veterinary Supply Co.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was active in the church circles and Sunday school. Virginia served on the board of Shesler Hall and also on the board of the Boys and Girls Home. One of Virginia’s favorite things was spending time at their home on Spirit Lake. The most important part of Virginia's life was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Sioux City; four children, Donna Lee and Dennis Wurster of Sioux City, Gary M. and Linda Lawrenson of Iowa City, Iowa, Jack R. and Alice Lawrenson of Sioux City, and Barbara Ann and Jim Meurer of Golden, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Randy and Pam Wurster, Brad and Candace Wurster, Kate Lawrenson, Nora Lawrenson, Travis and Brandy Lawrenson, Brooke and Mike Fink and Elizabeth Meurer; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter, Tracy Ann Wurster; and brothers, Merlin and Dwight Nagel.
A memorial has been established in Virginia's name for Wesley United Methodist Church.
