Virginia I. Witters, 90, of Delmar, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Delmar.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Virginia was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Bridgewater, S.D., the daughter of Michael and Ellen (O'Rourke) Ryan. She attended school and graduated from Salem High School in Salem, S.D.
She married Arlo Witters. Together, they made their home in Sioux City. He died Oct. 11, 1954. She worked for Rayovac and then Dura Pack Corporation while in Sioux City. In 1965, she moved with her daughter to Madison, Wis., where she worked as an inspector to Rayovac. She retired in 1980.
While in Sioux City, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her pride and joy was taking care of her family. She enjoyed St. Patrick's Day and all things Irish. She also enjoyed bird watching and reading.
Survivors include a daughter, Arlene and Tom Nicolls of Delmar, Iowa; a son, Edward and Loretta Witters of Kirkland, Ill.; five grandchildren, Arlo and Susie Witters of Indianapolis, Ind., Sandra and Bob Morgan of Janesville, Wis., David Witters of Rockford, Ill., Kim and Doug Livingston of Loves Park, Ill., and Brian and Maureen Nicolls of Stillman Valley, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Witters of Janesville, Wis., Nolan Livingston and Nicole Livingston, both of Loves Park, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlo Witters; two brothers, Tom and Ed Ryan; and two sisters, Rose Ryan and Evelyn O'Hara.
