Vivian Y. Smith, BRONSON, Iowa -- Vivian Y. (Cox) Smith, 81, of Bronson died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Peggy Hegeman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Vivian was born May 14, 1926, in Rolfe, Iowa, the daughter of Ernie and Mabel (Beckman) Cox. She attended school in Rolfe. She moved to Sioux City in 1941, then to Bronson in 1960 and had been a resident there since.
She married Claude Smith in 1960, in Lawton, Iowa. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church. She loved her family, helping and taking care of her husband, playing cards with her sister and her cats and kittens.
Survivors include her husband, Claude; six children, Carol and Harold Taylor of Lyons, Neb., Richard and Sue Smith of Ida Grove, Iowa, Steve Hoover of Florida, Ernie Joe Smith of Vacaville, Calif., Al and Susie Smith of Bronson and Claudene and Bob Ruhrer of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Shawn and Cyndi Smith of Hoschton, Ga., Ryan Smith of Jefferson, Ga., Dax Ruhrer of Sioux City, Brent Ruhrer of Sioux City and Tyler Huff of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia and Loren Lewis of Bronson; and a brother, Tom and Joyce Cox of Chattory, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dick and Bobby Hoover; and three brothers, Dick, Virgil and Donald Cox.
