Vonley Keith Hanson

Vonley Keith Hanson, 79, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Lutheran Church . Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 5 p.m. , at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Vonley was born on Jan. 30, 1935 , in Soldier, Iowa , to Wallace and Verona (Amunson) Hanson. His family moved from Soldier to Sioux City in 1949. He graduated from East High School in 1953 and then attended Augustana College for two years.
He was united in marriage to Claris Thorstenson on Aug. 6, 1960 at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City . He was the owner and operator of Rocket Auto Wash for 35 years. Vonley retired in 1995 and passed ownership to his two sons, Mark and John Hanson.
He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church , the Scandinavian Societies, and was in the Army Reserves from 1955 to 1961. He enjoyed attending East High and Morningside College activities. Vonley and Claris also enjoyed traveling and visited many countries. Vonley also cherished attending his grandchildren’s activities. In his retirement, he spent time drinking coffee with the old guys.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Claris; sons, Mark Hanson of Sioux City, and his children, Nicole, Dan, Kyle, and Garrett; son, John (Jerrie) Hanson of Sioux City, and their children, Carly, Caitlin, and Calissa; son, Tom (Julie) Hanson of Sioux City, and their children, Malea and Seth; brothers and sisters, Willis (Phyllis) Hanson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Veloy Reynders of Dallas, Texas, Holli (Ken) Hotz of Edina, Minn., and Reuben (Karen) Hanson of Panora, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
