Wallace M. "Buzz" Schmidt

SIOUX CITY -- Wallace M. "Buzz" Schmidt, 74, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tanya Sherrill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Buzz was born Aug. 18, 1935, in Oto, Iowa, the son of Herman and Mary (Thompson) Schmidt. He moved to Sioux City with his parents around 1940. He was employed as a laborer for Armour & Co., Swift Packing Co. and Curly's Foods for many years. He was a member of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed visiting with his friends, playing horseshoes and enjoyed traveling, boating and fishing. He was a big Chicago Bears fan. He also had a wonderful sense of humor.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his beloved partner, Sylvia Alter of Sioux City; one son, David Schmidt of Sioux City; one daughter and her husband, Jeanine and Michael Webb of Homer, Neb.; one grandson Zane Webb; one sister and her husband, Marlene and Les Crum of North Sioux City, and three stepchildren, Tina Van Hollen, Nancy Doren and Jeremy Behens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Elton, Lyle and Herman Schmidt, and two sisters, Charlotte "Sissy" Wilde and Leona Case.
Pallbearers will be Terry Schmidt, Jim Rose, Rich Case, Greg Case, David Schmidt and Mike Webb.
