Wanda J. Speck

Wanda J. Speck, 85, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at a local nursing home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today, with a 3 p.m. prayer service, at Berkemeier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Wanda was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Walthill, Neb., the daughter of John and Elsie (Martin) Cornwell. As a young girl she moved with her family to Sioux City, where she attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1947.
Wanda married Gerald Speck on June 14, 1947, at First Methodist Church in Sioux City. Together they made their home in Sioux City. Gerald died Dec. 16, 2011.
Wanda was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle. She loved family get-togethers and Sunday dinners. She also enjoyed cooking, bowling and gardening.
Survivors include daughters, Tanya and Lyle McKewon of Omaha, Sue Sappingfield of Sioux City, Nancy Guy of Sioux City, and Laurie and Jim Dixon of Wichita, Kan.; son, Terry and Aimee Speck of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; son, Michael "Mick" Speck; two sisters, Opal Anderson and Bonnie Pojar; and two brothers, Bob Cornwell and Lonnie Cornwell.
