SIOUX CITY -- Ward Wesley Orr, 90, Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. James Pointer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United States Army. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Ward was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Homer, Neb., the son of Elmer and Nancy (Lemming) Orr. He was raised in Nebraska and lived in Sergeant Bluff, before coming to Sioux City in 1990.
He married Minnie Betsworth on March 22, 1941, in Dakota City and they were later divorced. Ward did farming for many years and also worked at the Brick Yard in Sergeant Bluff. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Ward was a member of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed gardening and loved raising chickens.
He is survived by five children, Ward Orr of Sioux City, Wesley and Sandra Orr of Sioux City, Nancy and Russell McKinney of Victorville, Calif., Connie and Ted Streeter of Dakota Dunes, Jerry and Gay Orr of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Edith and Ralph Mandicino of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Shirley Leedom of South Sioux City, Harold Orr of Oregon, and Dollie Hodges of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Michelle Streeter; grandson, Ward E. Orr Jr.; a great-grandson; three sisters and three brothers, Ethel Frye, Russell Orr, Virgil Orr, Milton Brubaker, Alta Hodges, and Evelyn Orr, who died as a baby.
