Wayne L. Eberly

Sioux City - Wayne L. Eberly, 90, of Sioux City, formerly of Lawton, Iowa, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Chaplin Lorna Peters officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery in Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Wayne was born Feb. 11, 1922, to Charles and Katherine (Nagl) Eberly in rural Concord Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. He attended Lawton Consolidated School, graduating in 1940.
He then attended Aero Industries Technical Institute by correspondence and classroom attendance in Glendale, Calif. He worked at Douglas Air Craft until enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He was discharged in February of 1946 with the rank of sergeant. He has been an American Legion Member for 69 years.
He married B. Bernice Bleasdell on Sept. 20, 1945. They lived on the Bleasdell farm, where they raised their family.
Wayne farmed and worked for the Soil Conservation Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He retired in 1984 after 34 years of federal service.
Bernice passed away in August of 1969.
Wayne married Annette Whitinger Glover in March of 1973. They lived on an acreage near Lawton, Iowa, and spent the winters in Donna, Texas, until 2005. Wayne enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, reading and taking care of his house and yard. Annette passed away in October of 2007.
He is survived by two daughters, Bev (Dean) Swan of Rogers, Arkansas, and Rita (Dan) Rahn of Sioux City; a son, Ron (Gwen) Eberly of Sioux City; two stepsons, Tim (Joan) Glover of Zion, Ill., and Alan (Jane) Glover of Phoenix, Ariz.; two granddaughters, two grandsons, 12 step-grandchildren, five great-granddaughters; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frances and Donald; his wives; and a step-grandson, Derek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
