William "Bill" Ward Hoffman, 63, of South Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, after a four-year battle with cancer. He died as he lived, facing all obstacles head-on, with quiet determination, surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mike Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
The oldest of three brothers, Bill was born on July 23, 1951, in Wagner, S.D., to Ward and Madeline Hoffman. After graduating from Wagner High School, Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1970, where he served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. Despite being shot down by enemy forces on three occasions, Bill survived and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1972.
Four years later, Bill met the love of his life, Deborah Ann Farrer, and after a six-month courtship, the two were united in marriage on Aug. 21, 1976. From their marriage came Bill's greatest accomplishments, his three children, Aaron, Megan and Adrienne.
Happiest spending time with his children and grandchildren, he often expressed his gratitude that he was able to survive cancer as long as he did so that he could attend a few more basketball and football games and family gatherings. When not spending time with his family, you would often find him at Siouxland Beverage, his family owned and operated business in downtown Sioux City. Bill also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Deb of South Sioux City; son, Aaron and his girlfriend, Dusty Wilderman of South Sioux City; daughter, Megan Kegley and her husband, Ryan of Higginsville, Mo.; daughter, Adrienne Harris and her husband, Blake of Homer, Neb.; grandchildren, Hannah, Timothy and Lilly Harris; mother-in-law, Marilyn Farrer of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Sherry LaFleur of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; brother-in-law, Steve Farrer and his wife, Camra of Hinton, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ward Hoffman; mother, Madeline Hoffman; brother, Larry Hoffman; brother, Tim "Hubba" Hoffman; father-in-law, Vince Farrer; brother-in-law, Steve "Beano" LaFleur; brother-in-law, Patrick Farrer; uncle, Bob McGuire; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
