William B. "Bill" Ryan

JACKSON, Neb. -- William B. "Bun" Ryan, 76, of Jackson died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Jackson with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Jackson under the direction of the Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. at the church.

William Ryan was born Dec. 22, 1931 in Jackson, the son of Thomas and Mary (Walsh) Ryan. He was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from Jackson Public High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served four years at McConnell Air Force Base. After he was discharged from the service, he lived in Haysville, Kans., and opened a service station there. He then went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company for 32 years and worked at several locations throughout the country. In July of 1957, he married Patricia McCartney in Winfield, Kan. They later divorced.

After he retired in 1993 he moved back to the family farm in Jackson. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a member of the Harty-McNally American Legion Post, Jackson.

He loved attending the sporting events of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews; tinkering and maintaining the farm and equipment; spending time with his dog "Joe" and visiting and enjoying the lights and activities of Las Vegas.

He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Tom and Lana Ryan of Towanda, Kans., Mike and Jolyne Ryan of Edmond, Okla., and Tim and Jerri Lynn Ryan of Rose Hill, Kans.; five grandchildren, Tyler Ryan, Tiffany Williamson, Will Ryan, T.J. Ryan, Brady Ryan; and a brother Jack Ryan of Jackson.

Pallbearers will be T.J. Ryan, Brady Ryan, Will Ryan, Tyler Ryan, Nolan Ryan and Tim Ryan.

A memorial has been established in his name for Siouxland Dialysis.
