William R. “Bill” Tilton, age 77, of Sioux City passed away on Monday March 19, 2018 at his residence after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday March 23,2018 at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes - Morningside Chapel with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Bill was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 15, 1940, the son of Niel and Mercedes (Jacoby) Tilton. He attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1958.
He was a 20-plus year member of the 185th Air National Guard and was activated with unit to serve during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1969. Bill worked for Northwestern Bell in Sioux City for 40 years.
He was president of the Sooland Amateur Radio Association and President of the Marine Emergency Response Team. He also volunteered with the Siouxland Chapter of the American Red Cross. He enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator.
He is survived by his sister Carol Trongaard of Euless, Texas, his niece Kim Dahl of Minnesota, and four nephews Jerry, Jeff, Mike, and Mark and Trongaard all of Texas. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Bill’s name be made to Sooland Amateur Radio Association or the Marine Emergency Response Team.
