William John Connors

NORTH SIOUX CITY -- William J. "Bill" Connors, 71, of North Sioux City, formerly of Jefferson, S.D., passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 13, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. Craig Collison of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City officiating. Abiding by his wishes, burial of the ashes will be at a later date with the family present. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Bill was born Oct. 6, 1937, in Sioux City, to William J. and Irene (Collins) Connors. He grew up in the Jefferson, S.D., area and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy.

On Aug. 20, 1966, he married Roni Johnson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. He was a lifelong resident of the North Sioux City and Jefferson areas. He tended the family farm for a number of years and later held other various positions.

He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Many who knew him will remembered him for his knowledge and love of sports. From boxing to baseball and all sports in between, he enjoyed watching and reading about sports. He also kept up on the day's news by never missing a newspaper. He read it cover to cover every day. He had a quick wit and an unforgettable laugh. In his own way, he enjoyed many moments in life and many in the company of his lifelong friend, Mike Stanton.

Survivors include a daughter, Kristin and Bob Hudelson Jr. of Elk Point, S.D.; a son, Kelly and Brandi Connors of McCook Lake, S.D.; a daughter, Kerry and Darrin Allshouse of Waukee, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica, Jordyn, Kyle, Jaden, Karigan and Avery; and two sisters, Marilyn (Christiansen) and Dr. Ed Wiltgen and Bev and Eldred Chicoine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Russell E. Christiansen; and a niece, Terese Henson.
