SIOUX CITY | William Arthur Curiel, 58, of Sioux City entered into eternal life on Monday, June 18, 2012 in Thurston County, Neb.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Sioux City, with the Rev. William Vitt officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Elfrida, Ariz. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., in the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
William was born on Nov. 16, 1953 in Pittsburg, Calif. He was the son of Arturo Transito and Juanita (Ramirez) Curiel. He was raised in Antioch, Calif., and graduated from Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, Calif. He attended the University of Northern Iowa and Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. He was trained as an aviation mechanic.
He lived most of his life in California, Arizona and Iowa. While in Iowa, he worked for John Morrell, I.B.P and Iowa Meats. In California, he was a member of the Carpenters and Pile Drivers Union, Local 34. In Arizona, he lived next to his parents and farmed with them on their ranch.
On April 19, 1992, he married Judy Morton at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Elfrida, Ariz.
William was a member of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, chess, gardening, home improvement projects, and was an avid Raiders' fan. But what were most important in his life were his wife, children, grandchildren and all of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Sioux City, his mother, Juanita Curiel of Elfrida, Ariz.; six children, Heather Morton of Le Mars, Iowa, Amber and Harry Laulu of Brentwood, Calif., Monique Curiel of Clovis, Calif., Sierra Curiel of Yosemite National Park, Calif., Billie Curiel of Monterey, Calif., and Marcus Curiel of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Hunter, Elijah, Allyssa, Angel, Xavier, Giovanni, and Johnnie Amore; brothers, Joe and Maria Louisa of Antioch, Calif., and John and Alegria of Elfrida, Ariz; sister, Rae Marie and John Baca of Antioch, Calif; Aunt Lulu and Uncle Mel Thidemann of Sunnyvale, Calif.; as well as several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Arturo.
