SIOUX CITY -- William R. Dodson, 90, of Morganton, N.C., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday,. Feb. 1, 2011, at his daughter's residence in North Carolina.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the 185th Refueling Wing. Visitation will be noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bill was born June 30, 1920, in Wayne, Neb., the son of Ross and Leona (Baker) Dodson. He moved to Sioux City at the age of 6-months. He was raised in Sioux City.
On July 6, 1943, he married Rose B. August at Chapel of the Sea Catholic church in Long Branch, N.J. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. He then joined the Iowa Air National Guard, 185th Fighter Group. He worked full-time from 1967 to 1992. He was called up with the Guard in 1968 and served in Korea. Before he joined the Guard, he worked at Metz Baking Co. His wife, Rose, died Dec. 9, 2003, in Sioux City. Bill moved to North Carolina four years ago to live with his daughter.
He was a longtime member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. After the church closed, he joined St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Casimir and St. Francis Association.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Susan and Larry Barrier of Morganton; his son and his wife, William and Kim of Le Mars, Iowa; six grandchildren, Aubrey, Jared, Morgan, Tobias, Rebecca, and Christopher; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister and her husband, Yvonne and Russell Peterson of St. Paul, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Rose.
