Sioux City - William Ross Ferguson, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be noon Friday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Laurice Streyffeler will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
Bill was born on Feb. 25, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Hugh John and Bessie Ellen (Marsh) Ferguson. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1943. He served with the Merchant Marines and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on USS Farragut and USS Idaho.
After he was discharged from the service, he returned to Sioux City and married Betty Lou Lane on July 3, 1948. Bill worked for Thompson Electric for 43 years, where he was the shop foreman. He retired in 1990. After his retirement he worked part-time for Larkin Funeral Home until 2004.
Bill was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Bill was a hard worker and loved to tinker and take care of his yard. He was a generous man and would gladly give to any needy person.
He is survived by his three sons, Stephen and Patricia of Omaha, William and Robert, both of Sioux City; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Kukuk of Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and eight brothers and sisters.
