SIOUX CITY -- William E. "Bill" Mogensen, 76, of Sioux City died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Bill was born June 30, 1932, in Salix, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Anna (Pearson) Mogensen. He was raised in the Salix and Luton, Iowa, area and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and served 19 months in Europe.
He married Angie Hasenohr in 1951. They later divorced. He lived in Lincoln, Neb., Wichita, Kan., Tulsa, Okla., and came to Sioux City in 1971. He was a salesman for Coca-Cola for 10 years and was an insurance salesman for 43 years -- his last company being American Republic. He retired in 2008.
He was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a current member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He belonged to the American Legion Post 1981 and the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed golfing and dancing.
He is survived by his fiancee, Ruby Morey of Sloan, Iowa; his two daughters and their husbands, Lori and Ron Dickes of Columbia, Mo., and Cindy and Andy Chase of Ponca, Neb.; a son and his wife, William II and Pam in Dickson, Tenn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers and their wives, Russell and Darlene, Ray and Patty and John and Connie, all of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary; an infant sister, Carolann; and a brother, Jim.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name for a bench at the Green Valley Golf Course.
