William Raymond Ryan

BRONSON, Iowa -- William R. Ryan, 79, of Bronson passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, with the Rev. Cindy Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
William was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Emerson, Neb., to John and Mary (Shimberg) Ryan. He moved with his family at a young age. He attended many country schools in Woodbury, Plymouth and Monona Counties in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954 and again from 1956 to 1957.
On July 25, 1954, he married Marie Anderson in Platte City, Mo. She passed away on Dec. 11, 1991, at their home in Bronson. He had resided in the Bronson area for the past 50 years. During his working career, he farmed for several years. Then he owned and operated Ryan Trucking for 10 years. In 1973, he started driving truck over the road as an independent contractor until his retirement in 2007.
William enjoyed working, playing cards, playing with his grandkids and family gatherings.
Survivors include his children, Allen and Delores Ryan of Correctionville, Iowa, Doug and Carol Ryan of Kingsley, Iowa, Sandy Ryan of Omaha, Ken and Dori Ryan of Vermillion, S.D., Pat Ryan of Sloan, Iowa, and Terry Ryan of Bronson; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine siblings, Evelyn, Jim, Frances, Anna, Alice, Jerry, Mary, Marguerite, and Dennis.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Ryan; a brother, Patrick, and two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Ann.
